9/17-9/21 Homework

Here are the assignments that were assigned on Monday (look for another one on Wednesday):

1. Current event due by Friday…this should be a weekly occurrence.

2. Permission slip due by Friday for the Tillamook State Forest Visitor Center. This is a free trip, although we need several parents to accompany us as chaperones.

3. Journal one due by Wednesday:

A little more about the author, Deborah Ellis:
Deborah Ellis was raised in a small town called Paris in southern Ontario. She finished high school there, then lived for a while in Ottawa and Toronto. A long-time feminist and anti-war activist, her hobbies include riding her bike, poking around in the woods, and exploring new places and ideas.

Deborah works as a mental health counselor in Toronto as well as being an award-winning author. She began writing the Parvana books, about a young girl living in Afghanistan, after visiting refugee camps in Pakistan. All of the royalties from the sale of the books are donated to Women for Women in Afghanistan to support educational projects for Afghan girls in refugee camps in Pakistan.

DIRECTIONS: Deborah Ellis dedicates this book to: “the children of war.” Why do you think she does that? What do you think that means? Why would an author dedicate a book to kids? How would war be different for kids than for adults?

Remember, your writing should be at least 1 page long (without skipping lines), and although it is a rough draft, it should be neat and your best work. Please underline any words you’re not sure how to spell. Remember to use paragraphs. We will edit and do the final draft at school.
